HAPPY. NEW. YEAR.
Three of the most often shared words as we step into January. With renewed hope and optimism, we welcome 2026. That said, many of us—along with our friends, colleagues, and business partners—are beginning the year facing significant career changes and pivotal choices.
In my industry and the markets we serve, economic pressures, the continued evolution of e-commerce, and the lasting effect on operations due to the pandemic, have permanently changed how companies view their corporate staffing. While unsettling for those navigating layoffs or career transitions, this moment also presents a powerful opportunity to explore paths that once felt unrealistic or out of reach.
REINVENTION. RESILIENCE. REGENERATION.
These three words are essential to recognizing, opening, and confidently walking through the doors to renewed success.
It’s often said that when one door closes, others open. This isn’t just a cliché—it became my reality in 2020 when I was forced to shutter Storefloors after 26 years of serving the retail and restaurant markets. The journey was far from easy. Fear, self-doubt, and questions of self-worth surfaced daily. I faced difficult decisions involving my employees, vendors, long-standing business relationships, personal income, and the responsibility of supporting my family.
I leaned heavily on trusted advisors—both within and outside my industry—who provided invaluable perspective. I relied on imagination, intuition, and rational thinking. I had to let go, break away from familiar strategies, and search for a bridge to new opportunities. The process also required faith, empathy, perseverance, a bit of luck, and the unwavering support of family and friends.
THE RESULT
The outcome is a new business built on decades of industry expertise, deep network capital, and a reputation for delivering an extraordinary customer experience. But the purpose of this story isn’t just the destination—it’s the tools that made the journey possible.
Back in April 2020, I wrote three words on a piece of paper and placed it on my desktop as a daily reminder:
Reinvention. Resilience. Regeneration.
They are still there.
It is my hope that others facing uncertainty or change in 2026 find the same inspiration, courage, and momentum to move forward.
